Thanks to Gary and his crew’s meticulous care over the winter and in spite of the run of cold weather in early-February we’ll soon be seeing a lot of green around the course. This is also the time for application of pre- and post-emergent herbicides (done!) and fertilizer to greens, fairways and tees. Replenishment of bunker sand has been completed. Mowers will soon be traversing the greens and up and down the fairways and tees. This is a good time for reminder to give a little extra attention to ball marks on the greens and filling fairway and tee divots all of which will aid in spring growth and a better groomed course through the summer. (The new bunker sand would appreciate attention, too.) Feel good – play the Creek! The new Cedar Creek Golf Club grille opened to high acclaim on February 21st. As conveyed in Jim’s recent letter to members and others, huge thanks are due Greg Oates and his principal helpers Mickey Finn, Greg Pasco and Paul Haring along with the many donors and volunteers for their generous support. A plaque inscribed with the names of all will soon appear in the new lounge. A reception attended by the many donors and volunteers was hosted by Michael and Andrea prior to the official opening during which splendid reviews were accorded all around. As for the grille and lounge and as with any undertaking of the sort, there have been a couple hiccups in bringing service back to normal. Hours of operation will remain the same as before, but the grille will be operating with a limited menu for another week or so. There should be no further difficulties with bar service. Watch for further announcements and news on the grille web page: http://www.grilleatcedarcreek.com The Reception – A Few of the Many Bob & Cindy Stein, Bill & Charlotte Fink and Lana Sadler Greg & Laurel Oates and Jim & Vicki McNair The Community Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, March 17th – St. Patrick’s Day. The four-person scramble will kick off with a 9 a.m. start. The $40 entry ($25 for cart plan members) covers golf, cart, lunch and prizes. (Additional lunches will be available for non-golfers for $12.) Golfers may sign up as a team or individuals who will be paired with others. Registration is open at the pro shop. The “High School Invitational” will be held on March 23-25 when as many as 100 high school golfers will converge on The Aiken Golf Club on the 23rd with the second and third rounds at Cedar Creek on the 24th and 25th. Please note there will be no morning tee times available on Friday, the 23rd, at Aiken and on Saturday and Sunday at Cedar Creek. Masters week is fast approaching – the first full week of April. Promoting guest play at the revitalized Creek as well as The Aiken Golf Club benefits us all. If you know out-of-town golfers coming to the CSRA to attend the Masters invite them to play both the Creek and TAGC. Comments are closed.
