We hope everyone had a joyful Christmas and extend best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year with much enjoyable playing time at Cedar Creek Golf Club. And huge thanks to all who contributed to the employee Christmas fund. The staff and maintenance guys are truly grateful!
“Rebuild it and they will come” Some crazy weather we’ve been having ….. The course is showing “winter wear” particularly on the back nine, which is normal for this time of year as dormancy has pretty much set in. The Bermuda has ceased growth causing the fairways to be less plush and leaving the roughs looking a bit shabby. The newly renovated front nine is less susceptible as both the TifGrand tees, fairways and green surrounds as well as the MiniVerde greens hold their color longer and will also green up more quickly in spring. Turf colorant may be applied to both fairways and greens to maintain the aesthetics of the course. Gary and his staff are doing great work to maintain good playing conditions. The course took another rain hit during the days before and after Christmas. Consequently many areas of the front nine along with several smaller areas of the back are – to put it mildly – undesirably wet. With moderate to low temps and persistent cloudiness it will take days – perhaps a couple weeks – with no further rain for the fairways to dry. Expect a lot of “cart path only” days ahead. (If anyone knows how to turn off the rain for a while, please do so. We’ll let you know when to turn it back on.) We like playing with Bubba. No, not that Bubba – the Cedar Creek Bubba! We had a great turnout for the ever popular and final club event of the year – the Bubba tournament. Janet Koertge took first place for the ladies with a net 65. Donna Imbrescia grabbed second place with a 66. A third place tie at 67 was shared by Ann Marie Cox, Linda King and Gail Sheiman. There were a lot of winners in the men’s division, which was led by Glenn Huey with a net 57. The runners-up were bunched with three net 60’s for second – George Montgomery, Jack Sinclair and Phil Stack. Jeff Priest came in fourth with a 61. Mike Kahl and Steve Santos shared sixth at 62. They were followed by Greg Priest, Andrew Wilson and Jim Wilson tied for eighth with net 64’s and finally Bill Fink the eleventh place finisher with a net 65. The Men’s Golf Association will hold its annual Par 3 tournament on January 16th. A concurrent but separate par3 tournament for ladies will also be held. Registration is open at the pro shop. Enjoy January! Comments are closed.
